Heather McKenzie, Colon Hydrotherapy

Heather McKenzie, Colon Hydrotherapy - I have been practicing colon hydrotherapy, or colonics, since 2002. My goal is to support you in reaching your wellness goals through gentle colonics, high-quality supplements, nutritional information and appropriate referrals to other skilled professionals. The equipment I use is registered with the FDA and is completely sanitary. I share a clean, cheerful office with Dr. Caitlin Johnston, Chiropractor, and two wonderful massage therapists.

What can I expect during a colon hydrotherapy session with Heather?

Colon hydrotherapy, also known as a colonic, is a safe and gentle flushing of the large intestine, or colon, with filtered water. After filling in a simple questionnaire and discussing any questions you have, I will leave you to change into a soft cotton medical gown. You will recline on your back in a semi-upright position on a massage table, with a large heating pad behind you, for the duration of the 35 – 55 minute session. I usually palpate the abdomen to identify areas where there may be impaction of fecal matter.

The process of a colonic is very simple. The part of the session that scares people the most is the insertion of a tube into the anus. Each client receives a wrapped, new tube. The tube is well lubricated before we begin and goes only a few inches into your body. It is certainly a strange experience for most people, but not painful unless the client has severely inflamed hemorrhoids.

The machine I use is plumbed like a sink. I control the water temperature and the pressure of the water coming into your body. When I close the “drain,” water slowly fills your large intestine. When I open the “drain,” water and waste flow out of the body through the tube and are flushed directly into the septic pipes. There is no mess, no running to the restroom. I may massage the bottoms of your feet (reflexology points), your shins or your abdomen. Almost everyone I have ever worked with has been relieved at how easy the experience is compared with their expectations!

At the end of the session you will go to the restroom and release whatever did not come out during the session. After that, you should feel completely normal, although some people hang onto a bit of water and release it later in the day.
