Mira Monte Elementary School
Mira Monte Elementary School - Mira Monte is located in Ojai, California, a small town nested in the foothills of the Los Padres National Forest about 90 miles northwest of Los Angeles.
We serve grades K-6 and our current enrollment is 428 students. The warm and friendly atmosphere at our school is due in large part to the goals expressed in our Mission Statement:
"The Mira Monte Mission is to provide ALL students with a positive and challenging learning environment which empowers them to become responsible and productive citizens of our world."
The nurturing of our students’ educational and emotional growth is the primary focus of all our staff members.
We currently have several programs in place designed to supplement the daily curriculum including GATE (Gifted and Talented Education), English Language Learners support. Our Special Day Class, Speech and Resource programs meet the needs of students who need extra help, a Junior Kindergarten program is provided for children of Kindergarten age but who are not quite ready for the rigors of a regular classroom. We also have a before school intervention program for kindergarten students and an after school program for our younger English Language Learners. We are proud to offer a Leadership Club for 6th graders, Gavel Club, an after school Chorus program and team sports organized by the Ojai Recreation Center. Many of our students also participate in the annual Optimist Speech Contest, the tennis team and the Math Superbowl.
Our Computer Lab is state-of-the-art with 40 Dell computers. Our students spend time weekly in the lab as well as having access to computers in their classrooms. A pod of at least four computers are located in every classroom. Our goal is to provide all of our students and teachers with access to the latest in technology in order to prepare them for the future.
We are fortunate to have a very active PTO helping our school with financial support and enhancing school spirit with many activities. These dynamic parents have an enormous influence on the positive atmosphere at Mira Monte. The fundraisers they organize provide the additional money that gives us
an opportunity to offer many "extras" to our students. All parents are strongly encouraged to join our terrific PTO.
